Azerbaijan joined the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which include 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets approved for 2016-2030 at the Sustainable Development Summit of the United Nations (UN) member states held on September 25-27, 2015. The National Coordinating Council for Sustainable Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan was established by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated October 6, 2016 in order to coordinate the implementation of the duties of the state bodies related to the obligations arising from these goals.

During the past period, a number of activities have been carried out in the direction of the effective and comprehensive implementation of the SDGs in our country, including the High-Level Meeting organized by the Economic and Social Council of the UN in order to bring the implementation of the SDGs to the attention of the international community and exchange best practices in the countries that joined this initiative. As the first country in the region, 2 Voluntary National Reports were submitted for the Political Forum (YSSF) in 2017 and 2019.

As a result of the implemented measures, Azerbaijan ranked 54th among 166 countries of the world in the Sustainable Development Report of the UN for 2020, having scored 72.6 points out of a possible 100 points. For comparison, let's note that the average indicator for this index in the region of Eastern Europe and Central Asia is 70.9. According to the report, Azerbaijan has made progress on SDGs such as health, well-being, poverty, nutrition, clean water and energy, and sustainable cities and communities.

At the same time, our country applied to YSSF to submit the next (3rd) Voluntary National Report, and Azerbaijan was added to the list of countries that will submit a report.

Inclusive and Sustainable development, the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and the post-pandemic period, as well as the measures implemented on the SDGs, as well as the report to be prepared on the achieved achievements at the High-Level Political Forum to be organized by the UN Economic and Social Council in July 2021 will be presented.
